Journal Entry #1 (Research Topic)

Research Topic:
The topic I have chosen for my research paper is Global Warming. The topic has become more and more a part of daily news programs and personal interviews. The people and organizations are determined to inform the public and government officials of this threat in an effort to bring about changes in public policies and practices of private citizen's. From my preliminary research it is of great importance that we as a country demand changes in government policy to slow the process of global warming and work on ways to begin to reverse it's effects. Even if these changes were to occur in the next year, it would take a decade to start to reverse the damage that has already been done. The longer we wait, the more time required to alter its impact.

My interest in this topic is one of learning more about what can happen to our planet and of course its inhabitants if we don't make drastic changes immediately. The time frame for changes in our use of fossil fuels for energy and transportation alternatives we can explore and perfect to replace our current system are imperative. The fact that this is a hot topic with oil and gas prices rising around the world should provide me an abundant amount of information that is relatively current and easier to obtain accurate projections of the impact global warming will have in the future.

What I don't know is if anything is being done to counter the effect of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere. How soon these changes need to come about. Impact on wildlife. Effects on the ocean and the resulting impact on societies and countries world wide.

I think that you have choosen a great current topic!I am eager to see what your in depth research brings to light. I believe that we can all lead "grener" and less wasteful lives. Unfortunatley , some of the "facts" that are shared with the public and put out as evidence have more to do with politics and self glorification than finding real solutions! Hardly ever do you see the scientists that do not heartily agree with the global warming bandwagon.(There are A LOT) Just like any other issue, it is always a good idea to research all sides, most importantly those that are the oppisite of yours. Most of the time the truth lies in that murky area somewhere in the middle:)The facts are that countries like China with a billion people are draining their natural resouces and polluting the /water/atmoshere at alarming rates with little reprocussions. The world IS dependent on oil/gas/electicity and it will be a hard thing to get people to let go of their creature comforts, SUV's and lattes.
